๐ก Prepping ยท Lesson 1/10
The Prepping Mindset
Prepare for the likely, not the cinematic
Real emergencies are rarely apocalyptic: storms knock power out for days, floods close roads, a job loss empties the pantry slowly. Good prepping starts with a risk assessment โ what actually happens where you live (typhoons? earthquakes? outages? civil disruption?) โ and prepares for those first.
The rules of preparedness
- Two is one, one is none โ every critical item needs a backup, because everything fails eventually.
- Skills beat stuff โ a stocked pantry without knowledge is a countdown; knowledge turns little into enough.
- Redundancy in method, not just item โ three ways to make water safe beats three filters.
- Prepare calmly and early โ panic-buying in the crisis is buying the leftovers.
The tiers of readiness
- 72 hours โ the bug-out bag and household kit for evacuation or short outage.
- 2 weeks โ home self-sufficiency: water, food, sanitation, light, medicine.
- 3 months+ โ deep pantry, skills, garden, community: the homestead tier.
Key takeaway: Assess your real risks, build in tiers, and remember: two is one, one is none โ but skills never run out.
